A KEYHOLE'S VIEW

The Castle Ljubljana

The key to one's heart?

The Castle Ljubljana dates back to 1144 and has the fairly typical one ruling group to another castle history...until, 1815. That is when it began its history as a place for the ostracized. It was a prison from 1815 until the first World War, when it was used for "political suspects". Then in
WWII it housed Italian prisoners of war, and then German ones. After the war, it became a "home" to 500 "lower class citizens" who named their community "The Castle Republic", and wrote a whole lot of things on the walls. In 1970's, the city of Ljubljana took it over and renovated it. Today, it has a fun funicular, (or an icy walk) up to it, a very high tower with artistically beautiful stairs, and really, really, good cappuccino, to be had in black leather chairs next to old stone walls, with cleverly designed spoons.... oh, and yes, with very pretty entryway doors.
Who would have thought it, but when you think Ljubljana, think high end.

The apt from the tower
(just think communist era architecture and you'll be able to locate it)

The "Fun"icular

Note the spoon

Stairs that make climbing fun

love the stairs; and door, as always.
interesting, the photos you take and / or post vs garrett's.
some same, some not.
the spoon "rules"; glad to hear you finally got good coffee, cappuccino and in a black leather chair, no less.

More like a way to shoot an arrow into your heart! Or whatever vulnerable body part might be available.

I really liked the city view, with the river and then the view of your gracious apartment block. You are giving us such a good feeling for where you are!

Wish I could join you for cappucino!!! I'm there in spirit, OK?
